ROUND 5 RACE REPORT: Snetterton 300
I was struggling all weekend with rear end chatter, stopping me from staying on line, costing me time throughout the weekend. Also struggling with feel from the front brake. Not a great FP1 or qualifying saw me 15th on the grid. In race 1 this combination and wrong gearing selection sent me backwards ending my race in P17.
Race 2 was a different affair. I got a really good start and stuck with the front group hanging at the back in 13th. The brakes were better and the suspension tweaked, and gearing bang on. The bike was so much better. It was a epic race, I was chipping away getting up to 11th when one of the front runners lost the front causing his bike to re-enter the track making the front runners take evasive action and scatter across the track and run off. This gave me a massive advantage and I moved up 5th position. After fighting for 2 laps I was at the front of my group and jostling between 2nd-4th position.
The last lap, with 9 corners to go, as I turned into the hairpin the rider in front braked harder than expected causing me to continue to grab more brake, unsettling the bike as I tipped into the apex, the front tyre couldn’t hold it and it washed out, causing me to take out Calum Beach (Sorry!) who was on my outside, and 2 other riders behind got involved too. Though a relatively slow crash I ended up getting squashed underneath a bike – I’m all fine though, declared fit to ride at Brands Hatch next weekend.
